The congregation is asked to pay for the pedophile priest. This may test their faith.

If the faithful don't have enough sense to walk away from this one then their cause is truly hopeless.
Ireland was once the source of most Australian priests and nuns.
It was a priest ridden society.
Things have certainly changed. The great arbiters of morals and ethics have been called to account for their own gross immorality by the secular institutions of the law of the land.
Now the Church wants the faithful to pay the financial costs of their misdeeds.

Like all rich, the Catholic
Like all rich, the Catholic Church thinks that payouts are not much for them. The funny thing is that so do we.
If you are silly enough to
If you are silly enough to accept the domination of the priests then you may be silly enough to pay for their crimes.
This shows that the Catholic Church regards its followers as stupid sheep who can be shorn summer and winter regardless of their own welfare.
I hope enough of them develop enough sense to tell the priests to bugger off.
I see Mary is back making
I see Mary is back making comments but I notice she hasn't made any comment about this story.
Mary is not insane, she is
Mary is not insane, she is earnest. For more reason, she shouldn't depend on me; it is a war after all, I am suppose to treat her like a subhuman. I suppose that I should say "I don't like it" more and "Jeez, the niggers are uppity" more to fit in. To think some think that civilisation was built by war. What a joke.
To get back to the business at hand, I don't like it.
I'm quite willing to comment
I'm quite willing to comment Jenny.
The Church has had problems with priests who have fallen into evil ways and it hasn't faced up to them as well as it should have.
That stage is now past.
Priests are now very carefully selected.
Also not everyone who claims to have been abused can be believed.
Many people will make these claims to enrich themselves.
It has been a black mark against the Church but now Pope Benedict has dealt with it.
What about gay atheists. When are you going to deal with that?
Mary, I feel for you but it
Mary, I feel for you but it is obvious that you do not understand the problem.
In what way do we have to
In what way do we have to "deal with" gay atheists? I take it you are somehow offended by what people do with their own bodies in the privacy of their own homes. Or are you worried that other people might get infected with gay and bring about the end of the world?
Mary I don't think any
Mary I don't think any priests expected to become pedophiles when they started in the Seminary.
I think the whole unhealthy priesthood system gradually changed them, especially as they got to the age where other men were marrying and raising families.
They became pedophiles because the system was oppressive and denied normal sexual expression. It still does.
The fact that so many have been prosecuted for doing what they have probably been doing for centuries means that in future most of them will know they will have to be more careful and have sex only with adults.
As for the gay thing. Of course there are Atheists who are gay and there are Christians (obviously including priests) who are gay.
As long as they only have sex with other consenting adults there is no need to do anything about it. Why would you want to. Grow up.
Gosh Mary, whatever will we
Gosh Mary, whatever will we do about these gays?
The Vatican, an organization more secretive than the Kremlin has been caught out by the Italian police. Fancy a gay chorister and a gay "gentleman".
The Vatican has dealt with them. I'll bet gay sex wasn't the real problem. The problem was the lack of discretion. Fancy putting information in a telephone call instead of more discreet, old fashioned methods: sealed envelope, coded message.
I'll bet everyone has been warned not to let it happen again.
